UPDATE: Well, for those of us that are not big golf watchers, it turns out this is a “thing” at Augusta National. He’s at least the fourth golfer to get the hole-in-one skipping the water. Per Golfweek, he joins Vijay Singh, Martin Kaymer, and Louis Oosthuizen in completing the hole-in-one skip.
Whatever happens when the Masters tees off on Thursday, I don’t think anything will top Jon Rahm’s Tuesday practice round. Rahm was on the par 3 16th hole at Augusta, and rather than drop in an approach shot on the green, he decided to have a little fun with it.
He drove down on the ball and watched it skip across the water hazard in front of the tee box and onto the green. The ball skipped three times across the water, bounced off the rough and onto the green, rolled up the green, and then looped back to the cup for the hole-in-one.
It’s arguably the most amazing shot outside of Happy Gilmore that any of us will ever see. It may have only been a practice round, but boy is that memorable.
