Week 9 showed us just how poor the tight end position is this season, as other than Travis Kelce, no tight end topped 62 receiving yards and only three had over five receptions. Kelce was far above the group with 10 receptions for 159 yards and didn’t find the end zone. Jimmy Graham was second in fantasy scoring with six receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Touchdowns are key for tight ends this season and touchdowns are the toughest statistic to project every week. That makes tight ends a big problem. At this point, we need to continue to look at targets over just about anything else.

Injury news

Jack Doyle is in concussion protocol and is unlikely to play on Thursday. Mo Alie-Cox was limited in his first practice, so Trey Burton is the only fully healthy Colts tight end.

Austin Hooper is back and will play against the Texans.

Week 10 byes

Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets

Hayden Hurst, Dalton Schultz, and Travis Kelce will not be available.

Streaming options

Robert Tonyan, Packers

I really thought we’d see more work for Tonyan last week than we did, but I’m going to double-down on him in a great matchup with the Jaguars. Jacksonville hasn’t faced many good tight ends this season and they are still fifth-worst in fantasy points allowed to the position, including seven touchdowns allowed. I think this is the week Tonyan returns to the end zone.

Irv Smith Jr., Vikings

The Bears are eighth-worst in fantasy points allowed to tight ends and have allowed the fourth-most receptions to the position. Irv Smith is still splitting time with Kyle Rudolph and Rudolph is on the field more to block for Dalvin Cook, but Smith is the preferred receiver of the two and caught two goal-line touchdowns last week. We can’t rely on those, but the running game will have a tougher time against the Bears and Smith Jr. may be needed more often.
