Friday PM update: Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Mixon is doubtful for Week 10, per Ben Baby.

Friday AM update: Mixon was not at practice on Friday, per Tyler Dragon. He seems likely to be ruled out when the final injury report arrives this afternoon.

Thursday update: Joe Mixon didn’t practice on Thursday, per Ben Baby. It’s looking more likely that Giovanni Bernard will get his third start, this time against the Steelers.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon won’t practice on Wednesday, but will work on the side on individual drills, per Bengals.com’s Geoff Hobson. Mixon injured his foot in Week 6 and missed two games before their bye last week. Coach Zac Taylor said that Mixon is in the mix to play this week.

We will need to see Mixon practice with the team before getting too excited about his return, but it is a good sign that he’s getting closer. Over the last two weeks his backup, Giovani Bernard, has played well by scoring three touchdowns, but hasn’t been great in his efficiency statistics. In those two games vs. the Browns and Titans, he’s rushed 28 times for 99 yards and a touchdown, while catching 8-of-9 targets for 75 yards and two touchdowns.

Mixon hasn’t been much better on the ground, as he’s rushed 119 times for 428 yards and three touchdowns. That’s a 3.6 yards per carry average. The Bengals offensive line is a problem for both of these runners right now as well. Neither would get a great matchup this week either, as they’ll take on the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
