Kickoff update: Kalen Ballage is starting for the Chargers, per Jeff Miller.
Gameday update: Without Justin Jackson, it appears as if Kalen Ballage will get another opportunity to show that his performance last week wasn’t a fluke. The former Arizona State Sun Devil came out of nowhere with a 14.4 fantasy-point performance against a less than stellar Las Vegas Raiders’ defense. This week, he’ll be facing his former team, the Miami Dolphins, who are allowing 19 points to opposing running backs. We’ll see early on if Anthony Lynn trusts him to carry the workload or if rookie Joshua Kelley will balance out the snaps. ESPN projects Ballage, Kelley to score 7.6 and 7.0 fantasy points, respectively.
UPDATE: The Chargers have officially ruled out Justin Jackson for Week 10.
The Los Angeles Chargers have depended on the run heavily in 2020 and have an interesting running back situation ahead of their Week 10 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Justin Jackson is not practicing and unlikely to play because of a knee injury he suffered in Week 9. Joshua Kelley and Kalen Ballage could experience a bump in productivity if the starter is ruled out.
Fantasy Football analysis: Chargers RBs Joshua Kelley, Kalen Ballage
Kelley kicked off 2020 as half of a one-two punch that included Austin Ekeler. He was never very efficient but has seen his workload decrease drastically in recent weeks. Kelley is averaging a measly 3.2 yards per carry and has one touchdown on the year. He was jumped by Jackson on the depth chart in Week 4 and could take a backseat to Ballage for a second straight Week in a row on Sunday. Ballage tallied a game-high 15 carries for 69 yards and a score in his first game as a Charger last week. We haven’t seen much of him this year but there’s a good chance he’ll split work with Kelley, who tallied nine carries for 28 yards and caught five passes in Week 9.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Ballage over Kelley. He got a touch on more than half of his 31 snaps in Week 9 and likely earned a larger role in Week 10.
