Tale of the Tape for Jose Quinonez vs. Louis Smolka

In a bantamweight battle on the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 14, Jose Quinonez will fight Louis Smolka Saturday in Las Vegas and available on ESPN+.

The 30-year-old Quinonez heads to the UFC APEX with a professional fighting record of 8-4. This is his second bout in 2020, as at UFC 248, “El Teco” Quinonez lost to Sean O’Malley in Round 1 by TKO via punches and this head kick.

Quinonez’s last win took place in September 2019 at UFC Fight Night 159, where he defeated Carlos Huachin by unanimous decision. The southpaw is a multi-faceted fighter as he lands 3.41 strikes per minute with an accuracy of 46 percent. “El Teco” also absorbs 2.58 strikes per minute, while his defense is at 66 percent. The Mexican fighter can get down on the mat with a 2.58 takedown average per 15 and 50 percent takedown accuracy.

As for Smolka, he enters the octagon with a professional fighting record of 16-7. The 29-year-old from Hawaii will be fighting in his second UFC match this year. In May at UFC on ESPN 9, Smolka lost to Casey Kenney in Round 1 by guillotine choke.

Before that bout, Smolka earned a win over Ryan McDonald at UFC Fight Night 158 in September 2019. In that match he got a Round 1 TKO in 4:43 using punches. Smolka is a better striker than Quinonez, landing 4.25 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy of 46 percent.

When it comes to grappling, “Da Last Samurai” is only averaging 1.61 takedowns per 15 with a 34 percent accuracy. But he might be able to get a submission on Saturday night with an average of 2.0 per 15.
