Tale of the Tape for Geraldo de Freitas vs. Tony Gravely

In a bantamweight battle on the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 14, Geraldo de Freitas will take on Tony Gravely Saturday in Las Vegas, and available on ESPN+.

The 29-year-old de Freitas is walking into the APEX with a professional fighting record of 12-5. This is his first fight in 2020 and third overall in the UFC. The last time we saw “The Spartan” in the octagon, he lost to Chris Gutierrez at UFC Fight Night 156 in August 2019 by split decision. He defeated Felipe Dias Colares by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 144 in February 2019 as well.

Before making the jump to UFC, de Freitas competed at Shooto Brazil, WOCS 44 (Watch Out Combat Show), JF (Jungle Fight), NCF (Nitrix Champion Fight), BC (Bitetti Combat), MSA 3, SFL, and MF. The Brazilian fighter lands 2.97 strikes per minute with an accuracy of 46 percent. He also absorbs 2.30 strikes per minute, while his defense is at 49 percent. De Freitas is a top-tier grappler with a 4.00 takedown average per 15 and 50 percent takedown accuracy.

Gravely is coming into the octagon with a professional fighting record of 19-6. The 29-year-old from Virginia will be fighting in his second UFC match this year and career. At UFC Fight Night 166 in January, Gravely lost to Brett Johns in Round 3 by submission using a rear-naked choke.

Before that bout, he defeated Ray Rodriguez in Round 3 by TKO using punches at Dana White’s Contender Series in August 2019. Gravely is the better striker in this fight, landing 3.94 blows per minute with an impressive accuracy of 59 percent. He also absorbs fewer strikes per minute than his opponent at 2.03, while he defends them at 44 percent.

As for grappling, Gravely has the advantage there too with a 4.77 takedown average per 15 with 66 percent accuracy. But he’s not great at defending against them at 41 percent.
