In a heavyweight bout on the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 14, Don’Tale Mayes will take on Roque Martinez Saturday in Las Vegas, and available on ESPN+.
The 28-year-old Mayes is walking into the octagon with a professional fighting record of 7-4. This is his second UFC fight this year. At UFC on ESPN 8 in May, Mayes lost to Rodrigo Nascimento Ferreira in Round 2 by submission using a rear-naked choke.
“Kong” Mayes is a blow-for-blow striker as he lands 4.19 strikes per minute with a 45 percent striking accuracy. But he also absorbs an extraordinary 4.64 strikes per minute, while his defense is at 41 percent.
Martinez is coming into the UFC APEX with a professional fighting record of 15-6-2. The 34-year-old from Guam will be fighting in his second UFC bout this year and career. At UFC Fight Night 177 in September, Martinez lost to Alexander Romanov in Round 2 by arm-triangle choke.
Outside of UFC, Martinez has competed at Rizin FF, Deep, Rizin Fighting World Grand Prix 2017, TFC, PXC (Pacific Xtreme Combat), and Top FC over the last 13 years.
