The Black Knights (6-1) have not played in a couple weeks due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Army was scheduled to play Air Force last Saturday, but that game was canceled because of COVID-19 issues. The last time we saw the Black Knights play was on Oct. 24 against Mercer (FCS). Army imposed their will on the Bears, defeating them 49-3, behind an impressive rushing attack. The Black Knights recorded 397 yards on the ground and five touchdowns. Running back Sandon McCoy had three of those touchdowns, giving him eight on the season.
The Black Knights have rushed for 308.1 yards per game in 2020, ranking them second in the country. Only Air Force has more rushing yards per game at 330. Tulane’s defense will have to be disciplined to slow down this triple-option offense.
The Green Wave are riding a two-game winning streak, which includes a 38-21 victory over East Carolina. It was the second consecutive week TU has scored 38 points, and in their win over ECU, quarterback Michael Pratt had one of his better performances completing 22-of-34 passes for 216 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception.
The freshman QB also received help from his running backs. as Cameron Carroll produced a game-high 129 yards on six carries and two touchdowns. Stephon Huderson was the second-leading rusher with 89 yards on 15 carries. When you compare those stats to that of ECU’s running game, it’s a complete night-and-day difference. The Pirates’ leading rusher only had 27 yards on 13 carries. Tulane is hoping that they can carry this offensive momentum into Saturday’s game against an Army defense, which is only surrendering 11.7 points per game this season.
