How and what to watch for Temple vs. UCF

UCF and Temple will get together on Saturday night in a game that should feature very little defense.

The UCF Knights appear to be back on track after losing two consecutive games in October as they head into Saturday night’s game against a struggling Temple Owls team at home.

UCF will enter this game with a 4-2 overall record including 3-2 in the AAC, tied for fourth place in the conference. The Knights had a bye week last week, and took care of business against Houston on Halloween in a 44-21 road victory. UCF went ahead by double digits early in the second quarter and never let up. Dillon Gabriel completed 19 of 33 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns, and the Knights had a pair of 100-yard rushers with Otis Anderson (170 and a touchdown) and Gre McCrae (107 yards and a touchdown).

Temple heads into this game with a 1-4 record after starting its season on Oct. 10, as the Owls are currently tied for ninth place in the AAC. In its last game on Saturday, the Owls were defeated 47-23 at home against SMU. Temple held a lead at halftime and were within one score in the third quarter before the Mustangs took over. Running back Tayvon Ruley finished with 66 yards rushing along with quarterback Re-al Mitchell.

UCF won the last three games of this series including a 63-21 road win in 2019.

The Best Bet

Temple’s strength is running the football, and UCF really struggles to stop the run. The under in this game is tempting because it’s so high, but it’s difficult to trust either defense no matter how high the point total. Let’s go with the Owls to cover this large spread. If they can sustain drives by keeping the ball on the ground, it will limit possessions for UCF’s high-powered offense and keep this within four touchdowns.

Pick: Temple +26
