The New England Patriots are bad this year, especially the team’s offense. They’re scoring on average barely more than 20 points per game. And whatever excitement there was about Cam Newton taking over at quarterback has long since faded. It gets worse this week when they host the Baltimore Ravens.
Fantasy Football analysis: Patriots QB Cam Newton
Newton bounced back to fantasy relevance last week. He had 274 passing yards, and even though he didn’t throw any touchdowns, he did score twice on the ground. However, there is one major caveat here: he was playing against the New York Jets. Newton’s thrown just two touchdowns in seven games, while throwing seven picks to go with it. He does have eight rushing touchdowns this season.
The Ravens present a much harder opponent. Baltimore has allowed only 10 passing touchdowns this season, and opposing signal callers are averaging just 246 yards per game. If there’s one silver lining, it’s that the Ravens have allowed quarterbacks to score three rushing touchdowns this season. So there’s a chance Newton could find the end zone that way, but it’s a pretty risky gamble for fantasy when there are other options out there.
