Post-game update: Brees did not return to the game after the injury and is going to get an MRI and an x-ray on his ribs, per Nick Underhill. Brees told Payton he could not play in the second half.
UPDATE: Brees injured his ribs and is questionable to return, per Nick Underhill. Winston has completed 6 of 8 passes for 63 yards early in the fourth quarter.
The New Orleans Saints have made a surprising move and replaced Drew Brees with Jameis Winston to open the third quarter against the San Francisco 49ers. Brees took a big hit in the second quarter from Kentavius Street and looked uncomfortable when talking to Sean Payton coming out of the locker room after halftime.
Brees had completed 8 of 13 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. Taysom Hill has gotten some snaps as well, and we’re likely to see a significant mix of work between Hill and Winston as long as Brees remains sidelined.
