Tale of the Tape for Valentina Shevchenko vs. Jennifer Maia

Valentina Shevchenko and Jennifer Maia fight as the co-main event of UFC 255 at women’s flyweight. We break down the odds.

In a women’s flyweight title battle on the main card of UFC 255, UFC champion Valentia Shevchenko will take on Jennifer Maia Saturday in Las Vegas and available on ESPN+.

The 32-year-old Shevchenko is heading into this weekend’s match with a professional fighting record of 19-3. This is her second fight in 2020, and she’s won five-straight bouts dating back to 2018. Shevchenko last fought at UFC 247 in February, where she defeated Katlyn Chookagian in Round 3 by TKO using a variety of kicks and punches.

“Bullet” Shevchenko lands 3.06 strikes per minute but has a striking accuracy of 50 percent. She also absorbs 2.12 strikes per minute and defends them at 63 percent. When it comes to grappling, the southpaw has a 2.09 takedown average per 15 with an accuracy of 54 percent. However, she doesn’t land many submissions, with an average per 15 minutes of 0.4.

Maia is coming into the UFC APEX with a professional fighting record of 18-6-1. The 32-year-old is currently ranked third at UFC women’s flyweight, and will be fighting in her second UFC bout this year. In August at UFC Fight Night 173, Maia defeated Joanne Calderwood in Round 1 by submission using an armbar.

The Brazilian mixed martial artist is the better striker as she’s racked up 4.08 strikes landed per minute but only lands them with an accuracy of 39 percent. Maia also absorbs more significant strikes at 3.92 per minute and defends at 53 percent. As for grappling, she only has a 0.23 takedown average per 15 minutes with an accuracy of 50 percent. Maia also doesn’t get many submissions with 0.2 per minute.

If the current odds hold, Shevchenko would be the biggest favorite of 2020 in any UFC bout at DraftKings Sportsbook.
