Tale of the Tape for Mauricio Rua vs. Paul Craig

In a light heavyweight rematch on the main card of UFC 255, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will fight Paul Craig Saturday in Las Vegas and available on ESPN+.

The 38-year-old Rua walks to the octagon with a professional fighting record of 27-11-1. This is his second bout in 2020, with the first one happening in July. At UFC on ESPN 14, “Shogun” Rua defeated Antonio Rogerio Nogueira by split decision.

Rua fought Craig at UFC Fight Night 164 in November of 2019, which was scored a draw. “Shogun” lands 3.63 strikes per minute with 50 percent accuracy, and also absorbs 2.7 strikes per minute, while his defense is at 54 percent. As for the grappling, the Brazilian native has a 2.17 takedown average per 15 minutes and 47 percent takedown accuracy.

Craig is coming into the UFC APEX with a professional fighting record of 13-4-1. The 32-year-old from Scotland last fought this summer in July at UFC on ESPN 14. The 6-foot-4 fighter defeated Gadzhimurad Antigulov in Round 1 by submission using a triangle choke.

“Bearjew” is a multifaceted fighter that uses striking and grappling, though 12 of his 13 wins came by submission. Over his career, he has 1.61 takedowns per 15, which is less than Rua. But Craig also has a better submission average of 1.6 per 15 minutes.

Lastly, when it comes to striking, he lands 2.3 strikes per minute with an accuracy of 48 percent. The 32-year-old also absorbs fewer strikes than Rua at 2.56 and defends them at 48 percent.
