The Georgia Southern Eagles will be trying to extend their winning streak to four games when they take on the Army Black Knights Saturday at 12:00 p.m. ET in West Point, New York. This game will ultimately come down to which team can stop the opponent’s option run game.
Georgia Southern (6-2) is coming into this game off of a tight 40-38 home victory over the Texas State Bobcats. Eagles senior quarterback Shai Werts was the MVP of this game, recording a game-high 131 rushing yards and three touchdowns. As a team, Georgia Southern ran for 386 yards. Over the course of their winning streak, the Eagles have rushed for at least 300 yards two times. The Black Knights’ defense will be trying to make sure that doesn’t happen to them on Saturday.
As for the Black Knights (6-2), they lost 38-12 on the road to the surging Tulane Green Wave. Army had their running game rolling with 270 yards, however it was the turnovers that did not help them. Black Knights quarterback Christian Anderson had a touchdown pass but two interceptions. Army also had a fumble in the game, which was recovered by the Green Wave.
Defensively, the Black Knights could not stop Tulane’s game as they had 171 yards and two touchdowns. They also did not make things tough on freshman quarterback Michael Pratt, who completed a season-best 70.4 percent of his passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Luckily for Army, they will not have to worry about Werts beating them with his arm.

The Best Bet
The trends are artificially pushing down this total, with the theory being both teams see far too much running of the ball in practice. But on the other side of six total TD’s, there’s value in some scoring today. Play action ends up working eventually, especially from Werts, and we see some points.
Pick: Over 41.5
