How to handle Sony Michel injury return in Week 11 fantasy football

The Patriots are activating Sony Michel for Week 11. We break down what it means for fantasy football roster decisions.

Game status: Sony Michel is INACTIVE for Week 11.

The New England Patriots are activating running back Sony Michel off the injured reserve list, according to Ian Rapoport. Michel went on IR after injuring his quad in Week 3 and also was placed on the Covid-19 injured reserve list in Week 6. It is unclear if he will be active in Week 11 against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy impact: Sony Michel (quad injury)

The Patriots have dealt with numerous injuries in their backfield, but the unit is filling up in a hurry. Damien Harris returned from IR around the time Michel went on the list, and while Harris is dealing with chest and ankle issues, he’s expected to play on Sunday.

The backfield currently includes Michel, Harris, Rex Burkhead, James White, and Jakob Johnson. Burkhead and White are more significant options in the passing game, while Harris and Michel are more involved in the rushing attack. With all these mouths to feed, it becomes difficult to figure out how much Michel’s return lowers the floors of the other backs.

Harris seems likely to remain the lead back in the ground game given the success he’s had over the past month. The question is how much work Michel will take away from Harris. I suspect right out of the gate it won’t be much, but Michel’s return will be something to track. For Week 11, Harris is a solid RB2 start, but be a little wary.
