What to do with Joe Flacco in Week 11 fantasy football

Fresh off his best game in nearly two years, can Joe Flacco pull off a second nice performance when the Jets take on the Chargers on Sunday?

The New York Jets’ march toward the No. 1 overall pick nearly hit a snag last week against the Patriots. If not for Cam Newton and company engineering a last-minute field goal in order to prevent overtime, the Jets would have given up the inside track for the top selection and, in doing so, ruined the only good thing happening for them this season.

But while the Jets evaded a costly win, they face off Sunday against a team that specializes in second-half implosions: the Los Angeles Chargers. That could mean bigger than expected production from a New York offense that has done little to impress.

Fantasy Football analysis: Jets QB Joe Flacco

Joe Flacco handled himself better than expected during last week’s near-upset of the Patriots. The veteran signal-caller completed 18 of his 25 passes for 262 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception, easily his finest performance since leaving the Baltimore Ravens. Flacco doesn’t have any plus trait outside of his arm strength, but he does enough things adequately to take advantage of what the defense gives him most of the time. That might seem damning, but it represents a marked step up from what Sam Darnold provided the Jets this season.

And the Chargers defense hasn’t done much to slow down quarterbacks in recent weeks, yielding nine passing touchdowns and another on the ground over the past four games. Flacco won’t challenge the Chargers with his legs, but he might have another decent day in him. Still, only the deepest season-long leagues won’t have better options available.
