The Houston Texans will visit the Detroit Lions at Ford Field to kick off Week 12’s Thursday Night Football action on Thanksgiving at 12:20 p.m. ET. Neither team is headed for the playoffs but there will be plenty of betting centered around the holiday matchup.
Houston is favored at -130 and is looking to follow up its 27-20 victory over the New England Patriots from Week 11. While the Texans might not have David Johnson to exploit one of the worst run defenses in the NFL they have a very capable Duke Johnson in the backfield. Detroit’s injuries at wide receiver at running back could limit it scoring potential and help Houston cover the spread as visitors.
ATS Pick: Texans
The Texans are 2-point favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook. While they have struggled on defense Detroit is dealing with injuries to Kenny Golladay and D’Andre Swift. Matthew Stafford can make big plays when he has quality weapons at his disposal but his ceiling will be lowered significantly without Golladay and Swift on the field. Detroit was shut out 20-0 by the Carolina Panthers in Week 11 and could struggle to keep up with Houston’s scoring in Week 12.
The other thing that’s making me bang on Houston is Deshaun Watson, who has thrown for more than 300 yards in three of his last five games with 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions. His passing precision has been surgical and I expect him to use the speed of his wideouts to keep his hot streak going.
