Tale of the Tape for Curtis Blaydes vs. Derrick Lewis

In a heavyweight battle as the main event of UFC Vegas 16, Curtis Blaydes will fight Derrick Lewis Saturday in Las Vegas and available on ESPN+.

The 29-year-old Blaydes heads to the octagon with a professional fighting record of 14-2 (1 NC). This is his third bout in 2020, with his most recent happening this summer. At UFC on ESPN 11, Blaydes defeated Alexander Volkov by unanimous decision.

Before that fight, “Razor” Blaydes defeated Junior dos Santos in Round 2 by TKO (punches) at UFC Fight Night 166 in January. A majority of Blaydes’ wins in his career have come by KO/TKO. The Oklahoma native is a skilled striker who can also wrestle inside the octagon. Blaydes lands 3.55 strikes per minute, with an accuracy of 53 percent.

But he absorbs a minimal amount of strikes at 1.73 per minute, while defending 57 percent. As for grappling, the 6-foot-4 fighter has an impressive takedown average per 15 minutes of 6.98 and 55 percent takedown accuracy.

Lewis is coming into the UFC APEX with a professional fighting record of 24-7 (1 NC). The 35-year-old from Houston is riding a three-match winning streak, this being his third match in 2020. Lewis last fought this summer in August at UFC Fight Night 174. The “Black Beast” defeated Alexey Oleynik in Round 2 by TKO using punches.

Just like his opponent, a majority of Lewis’s wins (19) have come by KO/TKO over his career. When it comes to striking, the 35-year-old lands 2.64 strikes per minute, with a 50 percent accuracy. He almost absorbs the same amount of strikes at 2.09, defending them at 44 percent.
