Game day update: Multiple reports have practice squad wide receiver and former Wake Forest quarterback Kendall Hinton as the expected starter for this game.
Saturday update: It’s safe to say we can downgrade all of the Broncos pass catchers in Week 12. The team will be playing without any of the quarterbacks on their roster due to Covid-19. Jeff Driskel tested positive for the virus and Drew Lock, Brett Rypien, and Blake Bortles have all been deemed high-risk close contacts and are unavailable for Sunday’s game.
That leaves practice squad wide receiver Kendall Hinton and running back Royce Freeman — also the team’s emergency QB — as the only available options of note. Hinton played QB for three years at Wake Forest before converting to wide receiver, so he is a good bet to start. It’s possible the passing game could prove fine with this change, but for now you have to downgrade all of the pass catchers. Jerry Jeudy and Tim Patrick are still worth considering, but it’s a significantly uncertain situation with a huge downside.
On Sunday afternoon, he’ll be going up against a Saints’ defense that is only allowing 2.0 passing touchdowns and 24.6 fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers this season. ESPN projects Jeudy to score 7.6 fantasy points, while Patrick and K.J. Hamler to score 6.5 and 7.0 points.
A not-so-good team with a struggling quarterback facing a tough opponent is hardly the recipe for fantasy football success when it comes to the underdog team’s wide receiver. However, there is some usefulness among the Denver Broncos trio this as they get ready to host the New Orleans Saints.
One injury issue to be concerned with is Jerry Jeudy. He was limited on Wednesday due to Achilles and ankle issues, but then was downgraded to a DNP on Thursday. His Friday status will tell us a lot.
Fantasy Football analysis: Broncos WRs Jerry Jeudy, Tim Patrick, K.J. Hamler
Jeudy and Patrick both had eight targets in last week’s upset win over the Dolphins. Jeudy mustered just 37 yards, catching three passes; however, Patrick had his third 100-yard game, catching five balls for 119 yards. It’s worth noting that he had 61 yards on a single catch late in the game. Jeudy is still the team leader in targets, and with the Broncos likely to be throwing more in this one, he’s worth a WR2 spot in most lineups. Patrick is an upside play at WR3.
Hamler has had 26 targets in his last three games, but he’s only had more than 50 yards in one of those games, the only time he’s done it all season. With tight end Noah Fant one of the top passing options, it doesn’t leave as much for Hamler to do. You can leave him out of your lineup.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Jerry Jeudy if healthy along with Tim Patrick. Sit KJ Hamler.
