How and what to watch for NC State vs. Syracuse

It’s a lost season for Syracuse, while NC State has been NC State. Where should bettors go with this one?

It’s certainly been a rough go of it for the Syracuse Orange in 2020, and their season sputters on with an ACC matchup with the NC State Wolfpack on Saturday afternoon.

Syracuse is struggling through with a 1-8 overall record and has lost each of its last six games. Most recently the Orange were shut out by the Louisville Cardinals 30-0, and they looked about as bad as an offense could possibly look. Syracuse turned the ball over three times and finished with 137 total yards of offense. As a Power 5 football team. Yikes. If you find a statistic that makes the Orange like a competent offense this season, I’d love to see it. Syracuse ranks next-to-last among all Power 5 teams in points per play on offense, ahead of only Kansas.

On the other side, NC State is a typical NC State team in 2020. The Wolfpack don’t do anything extremely well, and they don’t do anything extremely poorly. They rank right in the middle of college football in yards per play offensively and defensively and head into this one with a 6-3 record, which is very on brand for NC State football under Dave Doeren.

NC State won this matchup in 2019 by a score of 16-10 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Best Bet

I’m just not sure where the offense comes from with this Syracuse offense, and NC State doesn’t do a whole lot that excites viewers on the offensive side of the ball. If you want to give the Orange credit for anything, they force turnovers. Syracuse has 20 takeaways this season which leads the country, though we’re playing uneven schedules in college football of course. The Carrier Dome will be where offenses go to die on Saturday, so let’s take the under.
