How and what to watch for Kent State vs. Buffalo

In a battle between two 3-0 teams in the MAC, Buffalo enters as the home favorite. Can the Bulls get it done on Saturday?

We missed you earlier this week, MACtion. After playing strictly Tuesday and Wednesday games up until this week, the MAC will play its games over the weekend the rest of the season. It’s a big one on Saturday when the Kent State Golden Flashes travel to play the Buffalo Bulls with a pair of 3-0 teams.

Kent State reached the 60s in each of its last two games with victories over Bowling Green and Akron, and the Golden Flashes rank seventh in all of college football in offensive yards per play. Though they have played a bad schedule, they rank sixth in yards per rush attempt and eighth in yards per pass attempt, so we’ve seen quite a bit of balance with the Kent State side.

On the Buffalo side, it’s a lot more of the same. The Bulls scored 42 points or more in all three games so far this season and won every one by at least 19 points. Buffalo ranks slightly ahead of Kent State at fourth in yards per play. That includes being No. 2 in yards per rushing attempt and No. 6 in yards per pass. Statistically, Buffalo ranks as the No. 1 defense in the MAC in opponent yards per play.

Kent State won the last matchup in this series by a score of 30-27 at home in 2019.

The Best Bet

These are two of the best teams in the MAC along with Western Michigan all sitting at 3-0, but I think Buffalo is at a different level and is separating itself from the rest of the pack. Buffalo comes in ranked 63rd in the latest SP+ rankings, while Kent State checks in at No. 99. Combine that with the way Buffalo has controlled all three of its games this season and the Bulls are at home, we’re going with Buffalo to cover this spread and win by double digits.

Pick: Buffalo -7.5
