Well, let’s try this again. After being postponed for COVID related issues a few weeks ago, the Memphis Tigers and the Navy Midshipmen are finally set to do battle on Saturday.
This late-season AAC showdown will be a battle to shake off rust for Navy, who hasn’t played a single game since losing 51-37 to SMU on Halloween. Indicative of how weird this season has been, the Middies have aired the ball out more than usual with their quarterbacks attempting a combined 48 pass attempts for 445 yards and four touchdowns over the last two games.
That may be a result of them playing catchup however with their defense being torched for nearly 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns in that same span. Navy’s defense is a bottom 20 unit in terms of defensive success rate and explosive rate.
That bodes well for Memphis quarterback Brady White and the visiting Tigers, who lit up Stephen F. Austin 56-14 last Saturday. While their prolific pass attack has shined all season, their run game took center stage in the win with five different rushers punching it in for a touchdowns, collectively combining for 309 rushing yards on 6.9 yards per carry. Memphis is a top-25 team in both offensive SP+ and explosiveness.
