Why is a 37-year-old running back still a professional football team’s main running back? Nobody knows! The best answer we can offer is simply that this is the New York Jets and they are coached by Adam Gase. Gore actually had some decent fantasy numbers last week, rushing 15 times for 61 yards and a touchdown. Ty Johnson got into the mix catching four passes after the team lost Michael Perine last week.
Fantasy Football analysis: Jets RBs Frank Gore, Ty Johnson
Gore’s touchdown last week was his first of the season, so it’s not as though he’s a regular threat to score. Gore should have more carries this week without Perine in the mix. Though, Johnson will most likely get some of the rushing attempts that would have otherwise gone to Perine. This is the problem with the Jets backfield when it comes to fantasy—besides it not being very good—there’s no consistent roles.
Miami’s run defense did give up two rushing scores to the Broncos last week, but they did not allow any in the four games prior to that. The last time the Jets faced Miami, Gore had 46 rushing yards on 11 carries and 24 receiving yards. Johnson actually got work in that game too, with 42 yards on just three carries.
Gore is probably best as a RB3 this week. And since we just don’t know what to expect from Johnson, I’d leave him alone.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Frank Gore at RB3. Sit Ty Johnson.
