It looks like the Carolina Panthers will be without running back Christian McCaffrey again this week, which means another week under the spotlight for Mike Davis, who has a good matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.
Fantasy Football analysis: Panthers RB Mike Davis
McCaffrey is listed as questionable on the injury report this week, but head coach Matt Rhule does not think he’ll be able to play. That’s the second time this week’s expressed doubt about McCaffrey. Not to worry. Davis is more than an acceptable substitute, as fantasy owners have learned this season.
With the backfield to himself last week, Davis had 64 yards and a touchdown in Carolina’s shutout of the Lions. He had another 15 yards in the air, and this was without Teddy Bridgewater in action.
A week after erasing Chicago’s ground game, the Vikings let Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard of the Cowboys run all over them last week. It was the first time they’ve allowed a back to rush for more than 100 yards since Week 3. Davis might not be able to cross that threshold on the ground this week, but he’s a solid play as a RB2.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Mike Davis.
