The NFL is scheduled to close out Week 12 with Tuesday’s Ravens-Steelers game, but whether or not that game happens, we still get Monday Night Football tonight. The Philadelphia Eagles host the Seattle Seahawks in a crucial game for both teams. The Eagles can climb back into first place in the NFC East with a win, while the Seattle Seahawks can take a one-game lead in the NFC West.
So where are sports bettors going as we get closer to game time? Let’s take a look. All odds and info were provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.
The Seahawks opened as a 5.5-point favorite, but the line moved to 6.5 and now sits at 6 as kickoff approaches. The public is backing the Seahawks to an overwhelming degree, with 95 percent of handle and 91 percent of bets.
Is the public right? The Eagles stink, but there is also some uncertainty with this game. The Eagles are reportedly going to give Jalen Hurts some additional work this week above and beyond some of the running packages they’ve used in him to date. Uncertainty is not our friend, but even still, the Eagles are not a good team. I would certainly prefer the opening -5.5 line, but anything under a touchdown for the explosive Seahawks offense is fine by me.
The point total opened at 52 but has dropped to 49 as kickoff approaches. The public is backing the over on this to the tune of 63 percent of handle and 71 percent of bets.
Is the public right? Philadelphia ranks 12th in points allowed while Seattle ranks 21st. The Eagles are 13th in defensive efficiency, but 20th against the pass, while the Seahawks are 23rd in defensive efficiency, including 27th against the pass. If you got under on 52 early, there’s a modest chance to middle this one, but I still lean under even with these defenses. If the Eagles win this one it’ll be in a grinder, and if they lose I think we see the offense struggle to get going.
The Seahawks opened at -245 to win the game, while the Eagles opened at +195. As kickoff approaches, Seattle sits at -275 and Philadelphia is +230. 92 percent of handle and bets is on Seattle winning this game.
Is the public right? Upsets happen, but I just can’t see betting on Philly to surprise Seattle.
