Julian Edelman placed on Covid-19 list

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman has been placed on the Covid-19 list, per ESPN’s Field Yates. Edelman is currently on I.R. with a bone-on-bone knee issue, but was getting closer to returning. He has missed the last six weeks and now will assuredly be out for this week.

The Patriots passing game has been subpar all season, as Edelman had one strong game in his six starts this year. In his absence, Jakobi Meyers and Damiere Byrd have taken over as the main pass-catchers. Meyers has shown well at times, putting up better production than Edelman.

Much of the problems surrounding the passing game stem from Cam Newton’s trouble as well as a lack of dependable targets. Newton continues to underperform, but even if he was at the top of his game, he would have trouble leading the Patriots offense consistently with their current personnel. Getting Edelman back would be helpful, but his return will likely be slowed by this stint on the Covid list.
