Fangio: Phillip Lindsay expected to play Week 9

Friday update: Coach Vic Fangio expects Phillip Lindsay to play against the Falcons, per ESPN’s Jeff Legwold. Lindsay’s jammed toes never seemed to be a real concern. He will again split work with Melvin Gordon.

Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay was unable to practice on Wednesday, but was seen at practice on Thursday, per DNVR Sports’ Zac Stevens. Lindsay hurt his toes last week, but the team didn’t seem too worried about the injury.

Lindsay will more than likely suit up against the Falcons this week, and he has been playing great when healthy and given the chance. He is averaging 6.4 yards per carry on 45 attempts while Melvin Gordon is at 4.2 yards per carry on 90 attempts. If Lindsay could stay healthy, those attempts would be closer, but so far it’s been an uphill battle for the UDFA to stay on the field. If he can stay healthy, he has earned more work, but Gordon has remained the lead back when the two play together.

Lindsay has broken off big runs the last two games, which makes his numbers look much better than his usage, so be careful of relying on 50-yard scampers when setting your lineup this week.
