What to do with Christian McCaffrey in Week 9 fantasy football

We go over Christian McCaffrey’s fantasy football outlook in his first game returning from injury as the Panthers face the Chiefs in Week 9.

Should you stash Mike Davis even with McCaffrey back?

Update: NFL Network is reporting the Panthers will rotate CMC with Davis to keep both fresh.

Game day update: With Christian McCaffrey making his long-awaited return on Sunday, the Panthers’ offense becomes that more explosive. Backup RB Mike Davis has held down the fort for the superstar RB over the last six games, but its nothing like having Run CMC in the backfield. Even if McCaffrey doesn’t get his normal amount of touches, expect him to still make an impact. ESPN projects McCaffrey to score 15.6 fantasy points.

Christian McCaffrey is considered to be the most dangerous fantasy running back in the NFL when healthy and he could return from a six-week layoff caused by an ankle injury in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Can he return to being a superstar despite the emergency of Mike Davis as a reliable backup?

Fantasy Football analysis: Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey

McCaffrey is averaging two touchdowns per game and racked up plenty of yardage on the ground and through the air in his first two games of the season. He’s averaged 24 touches per game but could see that reduced now that Davis proved he is a capable all-purpose back who can spell McCaffrey from time to time. Monitoring whether the Panthers plan on giving McCaffrey his usual workload will be key to determining whether to play him or not. His value depends on his extremely high usage.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

You have to start McCaffrey in season-long leagues, as he’s arguably the best fantasy option in the league when healthy. He’s risky to play in DFS given his lofty price of $8,500 though.
