In a featherweight bout on the undercard of UFC Vegas 13, Darren Elkins will take on Luiz Eduardo Garagorri Saturday in Las Vegas, and available on ESPN+.
The 36-year-old Elkins enters the octagon with a professional record of 25-9 and a four-match losing streak. This is his second UFC match in 2020, and he lost to Nate Landwehr by unanimous decision in May in his last bout.
Elkins’ last win happened in January 2018 against Michael Johnson at UFC Fight Night 124. “The Damage” defeated Johnson in Round 2 by submission using the rear-naked choke. The veteran fighter is multi-faceted as he lands 3.54 strikes per minute with a 37 percent striking accuracy. He also absorbs 3.09 per minute, while his defense is at 52 percent. Elkins can also grapple with a 2.43 takedown average per 15 minutes, but with only 33 percent takedown accuracy. When it comes to takedown defense, that’s at 58 percent for Elkins with a 1.2 submission average per 15 minutes.
Garagorri comes to the UFC APEX with a professional record of 13-1. The 31-year-old from Uruguay will be fighting in his first bout this year. He last fought in Novemebr 2019 at UFC Fight Night 164 against Ricardo Ramos, where he lost in Round 1 via rear-naked choke by in 3:57.
Garagorri’s first win in the UFC was in August 2019 at UFC Fight Night 156 against Humberto Bandenay, where he defeated him by unanimous decision. Just like Elkins, the 31-year-old is a solid striker with 3.75 strikes landed per minute and 54 percent striking accuracy. However he absorbs fewer strikes per minute at 2.22 and defends them at 60 percent.
