Game day update: Montgomery is healthy but injuries to key players on the Bears’ offensive line could make things tough on him. Chicago only has two of its opening day starters up front. Right tackle Bobby Massie is on the IR with a knee injury while center Cody Whitehair is on the Covid-19 list. Montgomery has run a ton of route with Cohen out and that could help him maintain his fantasy value.
David Montgomery has seen his overall usage numbers climb since his teammate Tarik Cohen went down with a torn ACL in the third week of the season. And while his stats don’t point to a special player, he has become an extremely useful guy for fantasy football thanks to a pretty consistently hefty workload.
Fantasy Football analysis: Bears RB David Montgomery
Montgomery had his best day as a rusher last week against the Saints, carrying the ball 21 times for 89 yards; both numbers were season highs for him. What really pushes up his fantasy value is a steady share of targets in the passing game. He’s averaging nearly five targets and four catches per game, making him a reliable running back in PPR formats.
This week, the Bears face the Titans — a team that’s allowed the 10th most PPR points to running backs this season.
