How and what to watch for No. 14 Oklahoma State vs. Kansas State

Both teams are aiming to stay near the top of the Big XII standings.

NCAA Football: Texas at Oklahoma State Brett Rojo-USA TODAY Sports

Saturday’s showdown between the Kansas State Wildcats and the No. 14 Oklahoma State Cowboys will have major Big XII title race implications, especially with both teams coming off their first respective conference losses of the season.

The visiting Cowboys maintained control throughout most of last week’s matchup with Texas, but a kick-return touchdown by D’Shawn Jamison and a Sam Ehlinger touchdown pass to Jake Smith pushed the Longhorns ahead late, where they eventually sealed the game in overtime. OSU quarterback Spencer Sanders had a solid performance in the loss, throwing for 400 yards and four touchdowns.

The previously cruising Wildcats fell victim to a trap game in Morgantown, getting dusted by the Mountaineers for a 37-10 setback. KSU’s offense could not get it together with a dismal 41 yards on 1.9 ypc on the ground while QB Will Howard threw three interceptions.

The Best Bet

While the focus of Oklahoma State has been on the tandem of Chuba Hubbard and Spencer Shrader, the defense has held their own so far in the Big XII. They are yielding just 4.4 yards per play and last week’s loss was the first game where they gave up more than three touchdowns to an opponent all season.

Expect the Cowboys’ D to dictate the pace of this ballgame.
