Game status: Matthew Stafford is ACTIVE for Week 9.
Game day update: Stafford tested negative in his latest Covid-19 test and has been cleared to play against the Vikings in Week 9.
The Detroit Lions will have their starting quarterback back under center when they take on the Minnesota Vikings Sunday. Detroit announced on Saturday that veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford was activated off of the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Stafford was placed on the COVID-19 injured reserve list earlier this week as he came in close contact with someone who tested positive. The 32-year-old did not practice with the team but did sit in on virtual meetings.
Backup veteran quarterback Chase Daniel took the first-team reps in practice. Stafford could be back under center if he gets approval from head coach Matt Patricia, per Michael Rothenstein of ESPN.
Fantasy Football analysis: Lions QB Matthew Stafford, Chase Daniel
With Stafford likely back under center that should help Lions’ offense tremendously as they are already without Pro Bowl wide receiver Kenny Golladay. The 32-year-old gun slinger will be facing a Vikings’ defense that is allowing 287.3 passing yards per game, ranking them 30th in the NFL.
Over his career, Stafford is completing 62.6 percent of his passes for 245.9 yards per game. He also has thrown 27 touchdowns and only eight interception. Stafford is projected to score 18.1 fantasy points, which would be in line with what he’s scored over the last two games.
