If the 2020-ness of 2020 is messing with your traditional sports calendar, keep in mind college basketball season is right around the corner. And today the Associated Press dropped their first poll of the 2020-21 season. And while it will be an odd one with teams still working out their schedules, game locations, and Covid-19 protocols, it means we’re just a couple weeks away from the best college cagers in the land jumping center for the first time since March 13th of 2020.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs won the West Coast Conference title last season, and finished the season 31-2. Returning stars such as Joel Ayayi and Corey Kispert make the Zags the strong favorite again to run away with their mid-major league, and they might be the team most affected by a lack of non-conference games during this Covid-19 season. They’ll have a chance to avenge the title they were denied a chance to compete for in 2020, where they would have been the #1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Baylor comes into the #2 spot, and Scott Drew brings back plenty of one of the best defensive teams in America. Jared Butler and Macio Teague combine for maybe the best backcourt in the sport, and will give perennial champion Kansas a run for their money in the Big 12.

Villanova heads to the court with senior Collin Gillespie in the backcourt, and sophomore Jeremiah Robinson-Earl expected to fill in the work of the departed Saddiq Bey. The Big Five and Big East Champions from last season will be looking for their third national championship under Jay Wright.
