Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is pulling away from the rest of the pack in this year’s MVP race and it looks like he’s on track to win the award for the second time in three years. His odds on DraftKings Sportsbook have reached a season high and it’ll be hard for any player to catch him if the Chiefs win out. Let’s go over how Week 12 action has affected the MVP race.
Patrick Mahomes (-125 to -400)
Mahomes was favored at -125 after Week 11 but his odds skyrocketed to -400 after he threw for a season-high 462 yards and three scores against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12. He leads the NFL in passing yards (3,497) and ranks third in passing touchdowns (30) but has thrown just two picks. No other signal-caller is close to being at Mahomes’s level right now, so the MVP award is his to lose.
Russell Wilson (+300 to +650)
The Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson was the clear MVP frontrunner through the first six weeks of the 2020 season but things have gone downhill since his Week 7 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. While he ranks second in touchdown passes (31) he’s thrown 10 picks is only one interception away from matching his career high. Wilson kicked off the year on pace to break Peyton Manning’s single-season touchdown record but has thrown for just nine scores in his last five games. He has the third-best MVP odds headed into Week 13 but he’s seen his odds drop from +350 to +650 since posting underwhelming numbers against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Aaron Rodgers (+500 to +550)
Aaron Rodgers is now second to Mahomes on DraftKings Sportsbook despite dropping from +500 to +550 after throwing for four touchdowns against the Chicago Bears in Week 12. His receiving corps has been depleted all year but he leads the NFL with 33 passing touchdowns. The Green Bay Packers have scored more points than any team in the NFL and Rodgers could gain ground on Mahomes if his now-healthy receiving corps helps him end the regular season on a high note. He can’t win without a major slip up from the leader though.
Ben Roethlisberger (+1600 to +2000), Josh Allen (+2500 to +3300)
Ben Roethlisberger (+2000) and Josh Allen (+3300) round out the top five. While the Pittsburgh Steelers are the only undefeated team in the NFL, Roethlisberger’s stats leave a lot to be desired. He’s tied for fifth in passing touchdowns (24) but ranks 19th in passing yards ahead of his team’s Wednesday matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Allen’s 22 passing touchdowns and six rushing touchdowns are impressive, but the third-year signal-caller has cooled off considerably since leading the Buffalo Bills to a 4-0 start with 12 touchdowns passes and just one interception.
