Cam Newton didn’t have much success through the air in Week 13 against the Chargers, as he completed 12 of 19 passes for only 69 yards. Fortunately, success through the air was not necessary for the Patriots in order to record a blowout 45-0 victory. Newton managed to get things done on the ground, rushing 14 times for 48 yards and two touchdowns and the Patriots defense and special teams took care of the rest. Does Newton’s propensity for rushing touchdowns make him worthy of a spot in your starting lineup in Week 14 against the Rams? We break down the fantasy analysis below.

Fantasy Football analysis: Patriots QB Cam Newton

The Rams have allowed the second fewest points to opposing quarterbacks so far this season, pointing towards a tough outing for Cam Newton in Week 14. They have allowed opposing quarterbacks to score only three rushing touchdowns all season, which is Cam’s bread and butter. The Patriots held Kyler Murray to just 15 yards rushing in Week 13, demonstrating just how effective this unit can be. Cam Newton has had trouble finding success against teams that shut him down on the ground and the Rams seem very capable of doing just that. It is best to leave him on the bench this weekend in standard leagues.

If you are in a very deep league or have an injury situation that requires a fill-in, it is worth noting that Cam Newton was limited at Monday’s practice with an abdominal injury. We have seen this in the past and Cam has suited up without issue, but keep an eye on his injury status as the week progresses.
