Why I like the Rams ATS on TNF vs. Patriots

The Patriots are far too limited on offense to cover the spread against the Rams’ elite secondary and defensive line on the road in Week 14.

The Los Angeles Rams will host the New England Patriots in a Thursday Night Football matchup to kick off Week 14. The game is set to kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on FOX, NFL Network, and Amazon Prime.

Los Angeles is -250 on the moneyline and is running hot after knocking off the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. New England has won four of its last five games and is looking to keep its playoff hopes alive, but the lack of a consistent passing attack makes covering the spread unlikely for the visitors in this situation.

ATS Pick: Rams -5

The Rams are 5-point favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook and are built to stop the Patriots in their tracks. Los Angeles has given up the least passing yards and touchdowns in the NFL. New England has the third-fewest passing yards in the league and has a league-low eight passing touchdowns. The Patriots will almost certainly have to depend on the run in this matchup given how Cam Newton has thrown the ball this season but the Rams’ defense has allowed the third-fewest rushing yards in the NFL. New England will likely have to replicate its performance on defense and special teams from Week 13 to cover the spread in this game. Los Angeles has a home-field advantage and enough weapons to secure a sizable lead.
