Tale of the Tape for Kevin Holland vs. Jacare Souza

In a middleweight bout on the main card of UFC 256, Kevin Holland will take on Jacare Souza Saturday in Las Vegas and available on ESPN+.

The 28-year-old Holland walks into the octagon with a professional fighting record of 20-5 and is ranked 15th in the middleweight division. This is fifth fight in 2020, with his most recent bout happening on Halloween at UFC Fight Night 181. At that contest, Holland defeated Charlie Ontiveros in Round 1 by technical knockout. “Trailblazer” has won three out of his last four matches by TKO.

The Texas native fighter is more of a striker than a grappler, hence the 10 KO/TKO wins over his career. He lands 4.68 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy of 56 percent. He also absorbs 2.80 strikes per minute, while his defense is at 53 percent. As for grappling, he has a 1.21 takedown average per 15 minutes, with an accuracy of 42 percent. Lastly, Holland has a 0.8 submission average per 15.

Souza enters the UFC APEX with a professional fighting record of 26-8 (1 NC). The 41-year-old from Brazil will be fighting in the octagon for the first time this year. The last time we saw Souza in a cage, he lost to Jan Blanchowicz by split decision at UFC Fight Night 164.

Before that bout Souza competed at UFC Fight Night 150, where he also lost to Jack Hermansson by unanimous decision. Souza is a multi-faceted fighter, who can get down on the mat and get submission wins. He lands 2.54 strikes per minute, with 46 percent accuracy. The Brazilian fighter absorbs a tad bit more strikes per minute than Holland at 2.81, but his defense is at 62 percent.

When it comes to grappling, Souza has 2.46 takedowns per 15 minutes with an accuracy of 38 percent. However, he does a great job defending against takedowns at 60 percent, and has a submission average per 15 minutes of 1.4.
