Fighter history
Joshua enters the fight with a 23-1 record an dholding the IBF, WBA, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles. He regained the four belts a year ago this week when he defeated Andy Ruiz Jr. via unanimous decision. Ruiz had stunned Joshua six months prior, delivering Joshua his first career defeat via seventh round TKO. Joshua was hoping to climb further to face the Tyson Furys of the world, and chatter has him looking to use this fight against Pulev as a stepping-stone to face Fury or potentially Deontay Wilder.
Pulev is the tenth ranked heavyweight in overall rankings, but is getting this fight as the IBF’s No. 1 contender. Pulev enters the fight with a 28-1 record and has won eight straight fights. His lone loss came in 2014 in a fifth round knockout at the hands of then champion Wladimir Klitschko. Pulev has since claimed the WBA’s Inter-Continental heavyweight title and is coming off a unanimous decision win over Rydell Booker in November 2019.
