How and what to watch for Boise State vs. Wyoming

Boise State still has Mountain West title aspirations but hasn’t played in a while but will be back for a road game with Wyoming.

The Boise State Broncos will play their first games since a victory over Hawaii back on Nov. 21 when they head on the road to play the Wyoming Cowboys on Saturday night.

Boise State is still in contention for the Mountain West title, so a victory would certainly help the Broncos case to advance. The Broncos have had a tough season with just five games played so far with a 4-1 overall record, as the previous two were canceled against San Jose State and UNLV. Boise State’s strength on offense is passing the ball where it ranks 24th, averaging 8.5 yards per pass attempt. Defensively the Broncos are just about average, ranking 49th in opponent yards per play.

As for Wyoming, it comes in at 2-3 and played two weeks in a row after getting two games canceled. The Cowboys are coming off as disappointing of a loss as it gets with a 17-16 defeat to New Mexico last week. That’s not what you want to be doing heading into this one, so we’ll see what kind of effort Wyoming brings against Boise State. The Cowboys are best in the ground game, averaging 5.2 yards per carry, which is 24th in the country. They have a better rush defense than pass defense and as a whole, Wyoming is 24th in yards per play allowed this season.

Boise State has won 13 of the 14 matchups between these two teams including three straight, most recently a 20-17 home win in 2019.

The Best Bet

Wyoming typically gets it done at home, but Boise State is going to be the side to take in this one. The Broncos have a whole lot to play for, while the Cowboys just gave New Mexico its first win of the season last weekend, which isn’t a great sign for how fired up Wyoming was heading into that game. Boise State has had a long time off, and the Broncos will be ready to roll when the ball kicks off on Saturday night.

Pick: Boise State -11
