How and what to watch for Louisiana Tech vs. TCU

LT will have a tough task to round out the season, taking on a powerful Big 12 offense

The 5-3 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will have a tall task as they round out the season this weekend against the 5-4 TCU Horned Frogs.

The Bulldogs have had a decent season up to this point, though both times they’ve faced a team in the realm of TCU’s talent level they’ve been blown out. Against BYU and Marshall, they lost by a combined 49 points. Skip Holtz’s offense struggles to run the ball, gaining just over 100 total yards on the ground each week. That will probably even be hard to reach this weekend against a Horned Frogs defense that gives up just 130 yards running weekly against Big 12 offenses.

TCU has a great ground game, gaining more than 200 on average rushing each week. LTU gives up close to that mark each week against weaker units, so Gary Patterson and his crew should have no issues gashing the Bulldogs defense while running the ball. Their passing game is a bit less prolific, gaining just 200 yards per game in the air. Last week they gave up five turnovers to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, but still found a way to win the game. Tech’s defensive unit has 13 turnovers on the year, but don’t expect a five-takeaway game this weekend.

Betting splits against spread

Louisiana Tech: (78% of action, 64% of bets)
TCU: (22% of action, 36% of bets)

  • La Tech isn’t high-scoring, to begin with, and they're even less so on the road. The total has gone under in 12 of their last 15 road contests.
  • The Bulldogs have been a safe team to bet against, going 1-4 ATS in their last five games.
  • Meanwhile, TCU has been a great bet, going 4-1 ATS in their last five games.
  • The total has gone under in five of their last seven games.

The Best Bet

La Tech will quickly become one-dimensional, and they don’t have a powerful offense to begin with. TCU’s strength is its defense and run game. They’ll control the game, but won’t put up a crazy number of points.

Pick: Under 50.5
