It looks like the Carolina Panthers will turn to Mike Davis to lead their backfield once again this week. Despite some hope earlier in the week that running back Christian McCaffrey would back in action for this week’s game against Denver Broncos, head coach Matt Rhule said Friday that he did not expect CMC to play this week. That makes Davis a useful option again in fantasy football lineups this week.
Fantasy Football analysis: Panthers RBs Christian McCaffrey, Mike Davis
McCaffrey made brief return in Week 9, his first action since the second game of the season. He scored twice in that one, and even though he’s only played three games this season, he still has six total touchdowns. Whether he’s able to return next week remains to be seen.
Davis had 55 yards on 15 carries against the Vikings in the Panthers’ last game. He also caught three passes on six targets. There’s some upside to his role in the passing game this week since the team will also be without wide receiver D.J. Moore, who’s on the COVID list.
The Broncos are giving up more than 4.3 yards per carry to opposing running backs this season. Plus, they’re allowing about 32 yards through the air to the position each week. It makes Davis a solid choice at RB2 this week.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Mike Davis. Sit Christian McCaffrey.
