Saturday update: The Seahawks are expected to activate Rashaad Penny for Week 15 and he should make his debut against Washington, per Jeremy Fowler.
The Seattle Seahawks could get a playmaker back into the offensive fold this week when they travel to face the Washington Football Team. Running back Rashaad Penny is back at practice and could come off the Reserve/PUP list this Sunday. Head coach Pete Carroll said Penny was practicing with the plan of playing on Sunday, per Bob Condotta.
Penny tore his ACL a year ago and opened this season on the PUP list. Prior to the injury, he had shown promise as a fill-in for the backfield. The week prior to his injury he rushed for 74 yards and a score and caught four passes for 33 yards and a score. The week prior to that, he rushed for 129 yards and a score. He has not found a consistent opportunity in a deep backfield, but he offers considerable depth to the unit.
The question now is how he will be utilized and what it means long-term. For fantasy football managers who have Chris Carson, it is probably not a big concern for Week 15 or maybe even Week 16. A full strength Penny cuts into Carson’s upside, but I doubt we see Penny getting whatever is a full game plan right out of the gate. But for keeper leagues, this will be something to track.
