La’Mical Perine designated to return to practice from IR for Week 15

The Jets could get their rookie running back to end the season.

Friday update: Perine is practicing, but Adam Gase does not expect him back playing in game action until Week 16 at the earliest, per Andy Vasquez.

The New York Jets have designated rookie running back La’Mical Perine to return from injured reserve, per NJ Advanced Media’s Chris Ryan. The rookie has three weeks to be activated from I.R., but with just three games remaining, they likely hope he will be back this week. Perine did suffer a high-ankle sprain though, which are often tough to get 100 percent from soon after returning.

The Jets continue to use old man Frank Gore as their lead back, much to the chagrin of New York media, but an 0-13 team isn’t going to turn things around at this point and the main goal from management this season is going 0-16 for Trevor Lawrence.

Perine should see work soon after returning as the team wants to see what they have in the rookie while getting him more game time experience. So far he hasn’t shown all that much, but it is going to be hard to shine on such a bad team.
