New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman returned to practice on Wednesday, per the team. Edelman has been out since Week 7 with a knee injury. His return means that he is now in the three-week window to be activated from injured reserve.
Edelman has played in just six games this season, catching 21 passes for 315 yards and no touchdowns. He had also been dealing with a knee injury during those games. Reports earlier in the season were that Edelman’s knee was bone-on-bone, which doesn’t sound great for a return to his former self, but at 34-years of age, I think we knew that his days as a starting receiver were growing closer to the end.
There is no doubt that the Patriots need Edelman back, even if he’s not the Edelman of old. We won’t get much information out of coach Bill Belichick and since Edelman hasn’t been activated yet, he won’t be on the injury report. For fantasy, I wouldn’t want to trust Edelman in the fantasy playoffs even if we knew he was feeling great and would be a big part of the offense.
