Heading into this season, no one expected the Green Bay Packers to have a viable top-10 tight end in fantasy football. But fast forward to Week 15 where Robert Tonyan has become the Packers’ three-best offensive weapon behind the likes of Davante Adams and Aaron Jones.
Fantasy Football analysis: Packers TE Robert Tonyan
This season has been a revelation at tight end for the Green Bay Packers. No one knew if they were going to get production out of the position after the failed free-agent signing of Jimmy Graham last season.
However, to their surprise, Robert “Big Bob” Tonyan has been a fantasy football must-start and one of the best tight ends in the NFL. This season, Tonyan has a career-high 46 receptions (52 targets) for 533 yard and nine touchdowns.
Last week against the Detroit Lions, Tonyan had five receptions (five targets) for 36 yards and a touchdown. It was fourth-straight week that Tonyan scored a touchdown. Over that span of time, he’s also scored 10.4, 12.7, 9.9, and 9.6 fantasy points. Anytime you can get that type of production from your tight end on a weekly basis with top options at WR and RB, you’ll take it.
This weekend, Tonyan should have a strong chance of making it five-straight games with a touchdown. This season, the Panthers’ defense is allowing six touchdowns and 8.7 fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends. They’ve also given up three touchdowns in four weeks to tight ends.
