In the co-main event for UFC Fight Night 183 at bantamweight, Jose Aldo will fight Marlon Vera Saturday in Las Vegas and available on ESPN+.
The 34-year-old Aldo comes to the UFC APEX with a professional fighting record of 28-7. This is his second bout in 2020, with his last fight happening in July. At UFC 251, “Junior” Aldo lost to Petr Yan in Round 1 by TKO. That result gave Aldo his third consecutive losing decision.
Aldo’s last win took place in February 2019 at UFC Fight Night 144, where he defeated Renato Carneiro in Round 2 by TKO. A majority of the Brazilian mixed martial artist’s wins (17) have come by KO/TKO.
Aldo is a striker by trade as he lands 3.48 strikes per minute with 44 percent accuracy. He also absorbs 3.55 strikes per minute, while his defense is at 62 percent. When it comes to grappling, Aldo has a 0.60 takedown average, with an accuracy of 61 percent. But his defense versus takedown is pretty good at 90 percent.
As for Vera, he enters into the octagon with a professional fighting record of 16-6-1. The 28-year-old from Ecuador will be fighting in his third UFC match this year. At UFC 252 in August, Vera defeated Sean O’Malley in Round 1 by technical knockout.
Before that bout, “Chito” Vera lost to Ryan McDonald by unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN 8 in May. Vera is a slightly better striker than Aldo, landing 3.70 significant strikes per minute with 48 percent accuracy. And Vera absorbs more strikes per minute than his opponent at 4.55, while he defends them at 52 percent.
When it comes to grappling, “Chito” is only averaging 0.86 takedowns per 15 minutes with 42 percent accuracy. But he might be able to get a submission on Saturday night with an average of 1.2 per 15.
