Game day update: Buddy Howell will serve as David Johnson’s backup, and while he might get a carry or two, expect Johnson to get the heavy workload. With DeForest Buckner questionable due to an ankle injury, this could provide a big opportunity for Johnson. ESPN projects him to score 13.3 fantasy points in PPR leagues.
David Johnson was activated from the COVID/reserve list this week, and he should be back in action when the Houston Texans travel to face the Indianapolis Colts. Johnson missed last week’s game against the Bears, leaving Duke Johnson to carry the load out of the backfield. Johnson was injured in that game and will not play this week against the Colts, while C.J. Prosise is also out.
Fantasy Football analysis: Texans RBs David Johnson
David Johnson’s last game, in Week 13, happened to be against the Colts. He carried the ball 10 times for 44 yards in that one, scoring a touchdown. He was targeted twice, but failed to catch either one.
The Colts run defense is strong, unless they’re playing Derrick Henry. They held Josh Jacobs to fewer than 50 rushing yards last week, and no player other than Henry has had 100 or more rushing yards against them. Still, David Johnson’s performance in his last outing against the Colts points to him being a useful fantasy play, especially when you consider Duke and Prosise are both out.
