How and what to watch for Arizona State vs. Oregon State

ASU just got a rival head coach fired, and Oregon State is on a two game losing streak

On Saturday night we get our final taste of #PAC12AfterDark in 2020 as the 1-2 Arizona State Sun Devils head up to Corvallis to take on the 2-4 Oregon State Beavers.

This game is also taking place after the PAC-12 title game, which is weird enough in itself. ASU has had a ton of COVID-related cancelations this season and have only played three games up until now. In their first two games, they looked decent, arguably outplaying No. 14 USC in a one-point loss, and falling to the UCLA Bruins by just seven points. Last time out though they showed the team they’re capable of being, hanging 70 points on the Arizona Wildcats and getting head coach Kevin Sumlin fired in the process. Good teams beat up on bad teams and that’s exactly what the Sun Devils did in their one opportunity.

Oregon State hasn't been blown out by anybody in their five games this year, but they haven’t looked dominant in any of the wins either. They beat the Pac-12 champs Oregon, which was impressive at the time, but lost some sheen after two straight Ducks losses. The Beavers allow a bunch of points, 31 in each game, and the Sun Devils score a lot even in their losses.

Based on the limited sample size and that massive offensive output, Arizona State’s stats are weird to look at, but they don’t tell the whole picture. So looking at those will only mess with your head. But it's safe to say their offense should have a good night on Saturday.

The Best Bet

The best bet on this one would be the point total. ASU is coming off a 70 point performance and the Beavers’ defense hasn’t played great at all this season. Even when they lose, the Sun Devils still have decent performances on offense.

Pick: Over 54
