In the main event bout at welterweight for UFC Fight Night 183, Stephen Thompson will take on Geoff Neal Saturday live from Las Vegas and available on ESPN+.
The 37-year-old Thompson enters the octagon as the slight favorite, despite this being his first fight in 2020. “Wonderboy” Thompson has a professional fighting record of 15-4-1, with his last fight taking place a little over a year ago. In November 2019 at UFC 244, Thompson defeated Vincente Luque by unanimous decision.
Thompson will try to win on Saturday using his striking abilities. He averages 3.93 strikes per minute, with 44 percent accuracy. Furthermore, the veteran fighter only absorbs 2.73 strikes per minute, while he defends against them at 59 percent.
As for Dos Anjos, he walks into the UFC APEX with a professional fighting record of 13-2. The Texas native last fought one year ago at UFC 245, where he defeated Mike Perry in Round 1 by TKO.
Just like his opponent, this is “Handz of Steel” Neal first UFC bout in 2020. The 30-year-old mixed martial artist will lean on striking and hope to get a KO/TKO decision.
He has eight KO/TKO wins on his fighting resume, along with a seven-match winning streak. Neal lands 6.07 strikes per minute, with an accuracy of 49 percent. He also absorbs more strikes than Thompson at 3.57 per minute, but defends them better at 65 percent.
