Friday update: Smith will not play this week against the Browns, per Turron Davenport. Geoff Swaim saw the most targets last week, but Anthony Firkser has been the regular backup to Smith and should be the priority play for fantasy.
Tennessee Titans tight end Jonnu Smith was unable to practice on Wednesday with a knee injury, per the injury report. This is a new injury after Smith played a normal set of snaps in Week 12. He didn’t see a target in that game, but was out there on the field as Derrick Henry ran roughshod over the Colts defense.
Smith was used more as a blocker for Henry than receiver, as Geoff Swaim caught three targets for 30 yards and Anthony Firkser didn’t catch his one target. It’s an odd situation and concerning for Smith’s fantasy prospects even before this injury popped up.
At this point, even if Smith returns to practice and is good to go against the Browns, it would be difficult to feel great about his workload for fantasy. If he were to miss, Swaim and Firkser would be the likely starting tight ends, giving both some value this week.
